The evening of short plays will include a performance of David Sedaris’ “The SantaLand Diaries,” John Cariani’s “Almost, Maine,” and “Oy, Come All Ye Fretful, or Deck the Halls With Bouts of Folly,” an original play by Castle Valley resident Jim Lindheim.
Doors open at 7 p.m., according to a news release from Hailey Henderson, one of the organizers of the event. Tickets are $10 and are available in advance exclusively at Back of Beyond Bookstore, 83 N. Main St., in Moab.
“Miracle on First North” is a special collaboration by Emily Niehaus of Community Rebuilds, longtime Moab theatre patron and performer Mary McGann, and Henderson, who is a recent graduate of the theatre and performing arts program at Westminster College. The costumes for the production were designed and created by Moab resident Eleanor Inskip.
Proceeds from the performances will benefit Community Rebuilds and the Grand County Education Foundation.
“We’re so excited,” Henderson said this week. “[The actors] have a lot of quick changes – especially in ‘The SantaLand Diaries,’ and they’ve been doing a great job in rehearsal. I’ve been really impressed with how well it’s coming together.”
Niehaus, McGann and Henderson will trade off directorial duties.
“The cast and crew is an eclectic assemblage of local Moab talent,” Henderson said in the news release. “There is some colorful language, so parents should exercise caution in bringing young children.”
The intermission for “Miracle on First North” will feature a half-hour holiday party, including drinks, snacks and games available for purchase, according to the news release. A “Silent Night Auction” will be held during intermission, and those attending the performance will also have the opportunity to sit on Santa’s lap.
The idea is to give local community members the opportunity to have some holiday fun while also raising money for two good causes, Henderson said.
“We’re just hoping to raise as much as we can,” she said. “We’re hoping that all the locals will come and treat this as their community Christmas party. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”
