An employee from a downtown motel contacted police on Nov. 21 to report that a window had been broken in one of the rooms. A housekeeper discovered the broken window early in the morning, according to a report from the Moab City Police Department. A guest who was staying in a nearby room said he saw another guest attempting to move a ladder that was chained near the laundry room. The man told other other guest he had locked himself out of his room and was trying to move the ladder to the door so he could open the louvers above the door and reach the doorknob, according to the police report.
The guest said the man was barefoot and “reeked of alcohol,” and did not want the motel’s staff or police called to help, according to the report.
The motel manager declined to file charges. The man had already left the motel when the damage was discovered. The man’s credit card will be charged $400 to replace the window, according to the report.
Man reports dog bite
A local man contacted Moab police on Nov. 23 to report that he was being treated at the local hospital for a dog bite. At the hospital, the man told police that he had seen a dog chained up while he was on a walk and he went over to pet the dog, according to a report from the Moab City Police Department.
The man said he petted the dog’s head but when he leaned toward it the dog bit him on the right cheek and under his jaw.
The dog’s owner, who was from Wyoming, told police she did not know the incident had occurred until the man told her. She was ordered to put the dog into quarantine for 10 days when she returned home to Wyoming. The dog was reported to be current on its vaccinations.
Man arrested for intoxication
Police were called to a local storage facility on Nov. 22 after the building’s owner reportedly found two men who appeared to be intoxicated sleeping in a storage unit, according to a report from the Moab City Police Department.
At the scene, police found one man sleeping on the floor with his legs inside a storage unit and his upper body in the hallway, according to the report. The man, 56, was sleeping next to a small space heater. A half-empty bottle of vodka was found nearby, according to the report.
The man told police that another man had also been there but left. He said he was also getting ready to leave and head to his camp for the night, according to the report.
The man’s speech was slurred and he appeared unsteady on his feet, according to the report. He was arrested and booked into Grand County Jail on charges of public intoxication, according to the report.
Police investigate domestic fight
Moab police officers were called to a local apartment on 200 North on Nov. 23 at 3:16 a.m. after a neighbor reported hearing a woman screaming for help, according to a report from the Moab City Police Department.
At the residence, a husband and wife told police they had been arguing and both had been drinking, but neither wanted to file charges, according to the police report. The woman said she had not been screaming, but the husband told police that she had yelled for help at one point.
Police separated them and the husband was given a ride to a local motel, according to the report.
