The Red Devils will start off by facing Gunnison at 10 a.m. Thursday. They are scheduled to play Manti immediately following that contest, at 12:30 p.m.
Then, on Friday, the Red Devils will face the Millard Eagles at 3 p.m. Each of the four teams will end up playing the other three teams once during the two-day tournament.
Grand is returning several key starters from last year’s squad, including seniors Koi Cook, Adam Jenkinson, and Kiel Schraft; juniors Kyler Nelson, Tanner White, and Ronnie Dolphin; and sophomores Brayden Ward and Dalton McElhaney. Several young freshmen have also joined this year’s team.
Cook is expected to be the team’s main starting pitcher, with Taylor, Nelson, McElhaney, and Ward also anticipated to see action on the mound.
GCHS head coach Jared Meador says he hopes the Red Devils will be at least as competitive as they were last year. The Red Devils had a 17-6 record in the 2013 season, earned a share of the region title, and won their first two games of the state playoffs.
