Bob was born on April 29, 1924 to Horace and Irene Nelson in Hiawatha, Utah. He attended school in Ferron and Moab. Bob excelled in track and after attending a BYU track meet he became a lifelong BYU fan.
He married Laverne Rasmussen on June 1, 1947 and to this marriage they were blessed with four daughters, Janet (Charlie) Philips, Raelynn (Bruce) Penoske, Barbara (Dirk) Richardson, and Michelle Nelson. He later married Bonnie Jean Thomas on October 20, 1985; she preceded him in death.
Bob was proud of his military service in the U.S. Navy and served on a merchant ship and toured throughout the world. While wearing his WWII hat he was able to share his service stories and recount ports-of-call till his final day. Bob took the honor flight to Washington, D.C., to tour our country’s memorials and his passing on the 77th anniversary of Pearl Harbor invasion comes as a great comfort to his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter and Bonnie Jean. Bob was the last surviving of 12 children. Bob is survived by Laverne, four daughters, 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 11 Mitchell Funeral Home in Price. Interment was at the Ferron City Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to at Mitchell Funeral Home of Price where friends are always welcome daily and may share memories of Bob online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
