The Canyonlands PRCA Rodeo Queen Contest will be held Friday, May 23 at 4 p.m. at the Old Spanish Trail Outdoor Arena. The contest will determine the royalty for the 2015 Canyonlands Rodeo.

Winners will be announced on the second evening of the 2014 Canyonlands Rodeo, May 30. They will be required to ride in the Canyonlands Rodeo Parade in Moab at 10 a.m. May 31, and in the grand entry of the final night of the rodeo on June 1. The royalty will then embark on a year of mandatory service at regional events, to be concluded at the end of the 2015 Canyonlands PRCA Rodeo.

A full description of the rules, regulations and requirements of the contest and of royalty reponsibilities is posted on the Canyonlands PRCA website (www.moabcanyonlandsrodeo.com) and Facebook page (www.facebook.com/moabrodeo).

The contest is open to young, unmarried women between the ages of 12 and 21 from Grand, San Juan, Carbon and Emery counties. A queen, a senior attendant and a junior attendant will be chosen. If there is an unusually large pool of contestants, a category for princess royalty may be created for young ladies who are attending middle school, officials said.

The contest will consist of a riding/horsemanship component, a speech and dress component, and a short question-and-answer session that will take place only in the presence of judges.

Anyone wishing to compete in this year’s contest must contact Sena Hauer at 435-260-1582 or Kirk Pearson at 435-260-2222 and mail or email a letter of intent by the deadline of May 20, 2014. Letters can be sent to P.O. Box 696, Moab, UT 84532 or emailed to sena@mymules.com.
