Dan had three children from a previous marriage, Jason, Elizabeth, and Sara. Dan lived in Moab until 1982, when he relocated to Grand Junction, Colorado.
In 1994, Dan married Peggy Foster and helped raised her two boys, Isaac and Tyrone Coleman. In 1995, the family moved to Ouray, Colo., where Dan served as Public Works Director for 17 years before going to work for Ouray County as the assistant superintendent for the Road and Bridge Department. Even though Dan loved his high mountain home of Ouray he also spent many weekends in his longtime hometown of Moab with his mother Virginia Fossey.
Dan passed away June 16, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John; sister, Elaine; daughter, Elizabeth; and son, Jason.
Dan is survived by his wife, Peggy; daughter, Sara (David Calvo) of Houston, Texas; son, Isaac (Erin) Coleman, Denver; Tyrone Coleman of Grand Junction, Colorado; grandchildren, Jason, Anna and Charlie, all of Green River, Wyoming, and Violet, Thayer, and Orrin Coleman all of Grand Junction. He is also survived by his brother, Frank (Roxy) Fossey of Moab, Utah; sister, Larraine (Ron) Turner of Edmond, Oklahoma; and sister-in-law, Patti Fossey of Sandy, Utah; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held in the Ridgway State Park, Ridgway, Colorado, on June 21 to honor Dan’s life and his kind, always helpful, gentle, and caring ways.
