Surely you all have noticed the change in appearance of the front page of the Moab Times-Independent beginning in January. The wonderful title-banner that pictured our wonderful red-rock buttes, including a gap through which the river flows. That view is the signature of our area! That banner made The Times-Independent distinctly Moab! I proudly sent copies to friends and family from time to time - knowing that the appearance of the paper itself suggested the special nature of our town. (I’d bet some visitors even took it as a souvenir!) Why remove it?
Blurbs that ran down the left side of the page now run across the top and bottom, and the title takes up 2.25 inches rather than the previous 3 inches. It is white and totally non-distinctive. Also lost now is the town name written prominently in purple in the “sky” above the buttes, and also the note indicating that the paper has been published since 1896. I think this change is a great loss to us. It is to me.
So I ask that if any others of you feel the same, write letters to the editor and say so.
Save the Moab banner!
