Participants are encouraged to register in advance with the Moab DWS office prior to the event, said Kelly Thornton, workforce development specialist for the Moab office. Early registration can be done online jobs.utah.gov, or in person at the Moab Employment Center.
Those who register at the employment center should bring a résumé and, if possible, a completed DWS master application. Employees can assist those who do not have a résumé and will also offer help with strategies for approaching employers, Thornton said. Express admission to the job fair will be provided to participants who register at the employment center.
Registration will be also be accepted at the time of the event but participants must bring copies of their most recent résumé or the completed application.
The job fair gives employers and potential employees the chance to meet face to face, and is a good way to make inroads for employment, Thornton said.
“It gives employers an opportunity to highlight why it is great to work for them. And it gives potential employees a chance to let those employers know how their skill sets meet the employers’ needs,” Thornton said. “People who are interested can come into our office and get help completing a master application or writing a résumé. They can also learn about which employers are attending the job fair so they can research the employers and tailor their resume.”
Thornton said as many as 26 area employers will be on hand at the event. That number includes the Moab office of the Bureau of Land Management, which is seeking up to four military veterans for its hazardous fuels management crew, according to Donna Jordan of the Moab BLM office. Those positions are seasonal and will be funded through federal funds made available especially for helping veterans find work, Jordan said.
Jordan said the Moab BLM office has participated in the job fair in the past and has found it helpful in recruiting workers.
“It helps get word out that the BLM is here in Moab and we do have seasonal positions,” Jordan said. “It’s a good tool.”
