For 57 years, Ione was the devoted, wife of Gerald Callahan, loving father of Patty and Pam (Kevin), grandfather of Jamie and Garold Wood.
Ione was born on May 30, 1934, to James and Susan Westwood in Moab, Utah. Ione was the second youngest of 13 children.
Ione was a passionate nurse with a long and distinguished career in nursing with a degree from Westminster College. To fund her college education, she drove cattle and roped wild mustangs. She became one of the youngest supervisors at St. Marks Hospital, running the othopedics and psychiatric wards. She worked as director of nursing at the Duluth Clinic and South Davis Community Hospital and also as a hospice nurse. She loved her time as a school nurse in the Davis County school system.
She was an excellent golfer, all around athlete and a dedicated Jazz fan. She rarely missed a game and cheered loudly knowing all the players, their stats, strengths and weaknesses.
We wish to express our thanks to the many wonderful caregivers at The Legacy House, Lakeview Hospital and Orchard Cove that gave her loving quality care.
She loved with all her being; a fierce life force who touched all around her, demanding the best from everyone. She will be greatly missed by all.
A celebration of Ione’s life was held, Saturday, Jan. 25 in North Salt Lake City.
