Jerrel was born Jan. 26, 1939, in Kilgore, Texas, to Joseph Earl and Rhoda Gibson (Arnold) Bessire. He was an identical twin and you could not tell either of them apart.
He played high school football and loved boxing. Following high school he took a few classes at the Abilene Christian College, then he and his father went to Alaska in 1961, looking for work and decided home was the place to be.
Jerrel moved to Cortez, Colo., for work, where he met and married Wanda Earlene Sutherland on May 24, 1962. Shortly after they were married they moved to Moab to work for the potash mine. He worked there for 35 years before he retired from the potash mine.
Jerrel helped everyone who had a need and never spoke a mean word to anyone. He touched the lives of many and we are so thankful to have had him to love. He loved woodworking and was an avid recycler all his life. He was active in the Moab First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Wanda, of Moab; a son, Brent (Kristina) Bessire, of Grand Junction, Colo.; a sister, Emma; grandchildren, Mathew, Amber Natalie (fiancé Cody Cuelho), Katlen Regina, and Marvin; great-grandchildren, Drake Thomas, step great-grandson Roman Joseph with one on the way, and great granddaughter NovaLee May.
He was preceded in death by a son, Kurt Lee; his twin, Robert Earl; and his parents.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 27, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Moab First Baptist Church. A viewing will be held Friday, April 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Spanish Valley Mortuary. Interment will follow the service at the Peal Cemetery near Dove Creek at 3:30 on Saturday.
