At South Sevier, the Lady Devils lost the first set 33-31, but came back to win the second and third sets, 25-23 and 31-29. Grand then dropped the fourth set, 25-12.
“I don’t know what happened to us there,” said GCHS head coach Deb Hren. The Lady Devils then lost the fifth and deciding set by the score of 15-13.
Against South Sevier, Cammy Beeman led the Lady Devils with eight service points. Sydney Lema had 21 kills during the match. Kasey Betts had three solo blocks and six assist blocks, and Brook Schultz recorded 17 assists, according to coach Hren.
On Saturday, Oct. 5, at Wasatch Academy, the Lady Devils won 3-1. Grand took the first two sets, 25-20 and 25-10, before losing the third set 25-23. The Lady Devils then won the fourth set 25-18 to clinch the best-of-five match.
This week, Grand (now 8-9 overall, 3-3 in Region 15 play) is scheduled to play region-leading San Juan at Blanding on Tuesday, Oct. 8. The Lady Devils will then head to Richfield the weekend of Oct. 11 and 12 to participate in the Sevier Valley Invitational tournament.
Grand doesn’t play again at home until it faces North Sevier on Friday, Oct. 25. The Lady Devils also play South Sevier at Moab on Oct. 26, which will be their final regular-season contest. The 2A state tournament is scheduled for Nov. 1 and 2 at Utah Valley University in Orem.
