The Grand County High School girls soccer team ended their regular season last week, defeating South Sevier at Monroe 3-1 on Oct. 6, then losing at Millard 6-1 on Oct. 8.
Against South Sevier, the Lady Devils overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit and scored three goals in the second half to secure the victory. Drew Camps scored twice and Amanda Sheets added the other goal.
At Millard, the Lady Devils faced a team that had beaten them 9-1 at Moab on Sept. 15. This time around, the Lady Eagles scored six goals, three in each half. Camps scored Grand’s only goal, in the second half.
The Lady Devils finished their season with a 6-4-2 record in Region 13 (also called 2A South), good enough for third place in the final region standings. Millard (12-0 in region) and Beaver (8-3-1) finished in the top two spots.
This week, Grand hosts Layton Christian, the No. 6 seed from Region 14 (2A North), in the first round of the single-elimination 2A state tournament. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 14. The winner of that game will go on to play St. Joseph, the 2A North’s No. 2 seed, at St. Joseph’s home field in Ogden on Oct. 17.
The 2A state tournament will then conclude the following weekend (Oct. 23-24) at Jordan High School and at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy.
