Against Emery on Tuesday, Sept. 24, the Lady Devils lost the first two sets 25-23 and 25-21. But Grand rallied and came back to win the third set 25-20. Still, the effort wasn’t enough and the Lady Spartans took the fourth and deciding set 25-22 to win the match.
Sophomore Sydney Lema led the Lady Devils with 15 kills and three service aces. Kasey Betts recorded eight blocks.
On Thursday, Sept. 26 at North Sevier, the Lady Devils rolled to a 3-1 victory over the Lady Wolves. Grand won the first two sets but lost the third to North Sevier. The Lady Devils then rebounded to take the match four sets, 25-16, 25-23, 13-25, and 25-14.
Against North Sevier, Lema contributed 26 kills, 14 digs, two block solos, three block assists, and two aces.
“Sydney is a great team player,” said GCHS head coach Deb Hren. “She is always talking and taking charge of the court. She is an extremely precise passer, which helps our offense run smoothly.”
This week, the Lady Devils (now 2-2 in Region 15 play) are scheduled to play two region matches. Grand will face the South Sevier Lady Rams at Monroe on Friday, Oct. 4, followed by a match at Wasatch Academy in Mt. Pleasant on Saturday, Oct. 5.
