He was born July 4, 1946, to Desmond Dean and Inez Johnson Young in Moab, Utah, where he developed a passion for fruit trees at an early age.
Les was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he was called to serve the Lamanite people in North Dakota, South Dakota and Montana. After returning from his mission, he attended college at Cedar City, Brigham Young University and Utah State University where he received a bachelors and masters in horticulture.
On Nov. 7, 1978, he married Terry Lynn Nielson in Fairview, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti Temple on Nov. 8, 1979.
In 1977, he moved to Huntington Canyon, where he developed the Huntington and Hunter Research Farms for Utah Power & Light. After leaving the area, Les began working for the USDA Soil Conservation Service in Idaho, where he retired after 25 years of service.
Les shared a passion for the outdoors and his greatest gift was being able to share his extensive knowledge with family, friends, and farmers. He was a very patient individual who was loved and respected by his peers. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, farming, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
