During the academy this summer, Olson will have the opportunity to learn about space and science by spending five days at the world’s premiere space learning center in Alabama. Throughout the week participants in the space academy take part in a wide variety of activities that use space to meet math and science objectives, according to a news release from the program. All activities are correlated to national science, math and reading standards, officials said in the news release. The professional development program is designed to help math and science teachers from around the world become more effective educators in science, technology, engineering, and math.
Educators will also learn supplemental teaching techniques through simulated astronaut training and innovative educational tools designed to help bring science to life in the classroom.
Last summer, Olson was selected to attend the Michelson Exxon Mobile Teacher’s Academy in New Jersey.
