Quality of education…

I am a teacher, a parent and a homeowner. I will vote yes to raise taxes for the school district. You may think it is to line my own pockets, but I have reached the top of my promotional opportunities and therefore I will not have any monetary gain from that decision.

I will vote yes because I don’t want to see my class size increase by six or more students. I will vote yes because I don’t want to see opportunities for academic challenge and enrichment go away.

My son attended 13 years of school in Grand County School District and earned an academic scholarship for college. He didn’t do it alone and to all of his teachers I say “Thank You!” I will vote yes because I want those same opportunities to be available to my friends’ children.

It seems ironic that the financial mistakes were ultimately the source that funded quality education here in Grand County. Now we know what to do, how not to make the same mistake, and what it will take to continue with that quality. I will vote yes.

To paraphrase a quote – Children in times of “economic slump” deserve the same quality of education as children in times of prosperity.

I vote yes for the children.
