The host team, the Castle Valley Barracudas, took first place overall with a team score of 655 points. The Moab Sea Devils earned 319 points, while the San Rafael Stingrays of Emery placed third with 267 points and the Dayo Piranhas of Delta were fourth with 165 points.
“Even though some of our fastest swimmers weren’t able to make it to the meet, we still did well,” said Sea Devils head coach Penny Richards. “Individually, we had several kids win blue ribbons in their age categories in multiple races.”
Rhiannon Hren, 7, placed first out of 13 swimmers in the 25-yard breaststroke for girls age 7-8, finishing in a time of 28.92 seconds. Her twin brother, Nicholas Hren, won the same race in the boys’ category in a time of 31.66 seconds. Rhiannon Hren also took first place in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 59.03 seconds.
Nicholas Hren took first in the 25-yard freestyle (24.22 seconds), edging five other swimmers. He also placed first in the 100-yard individual medley with a time of 2 minutes, 07.71 seconds; the 25-yard backstroke with a time of 27.47 seconds, the 50-yard breaststroke in 1:07.60, and the 50-yard freestyle in 56.72 seconds.
Emree Olsen, 10, placed first in the 25-yard freestyle in the girls 9-10 age category, recording a time of 19.55 seconds. She also won the 25-yard backstroke in a time of 22.39 seconds.
Indiana Richards, 8, won the 25-yard butterfly in a time of 26.04 seconds. She also took first in the 100-yard individual medley with a time of 2:04.79 and first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 53.71 seconds.
In the 11- and 12-year-old girls category, London Richards, 12, won several events, including the 50-yard breaststroke in a time of 41.42 seconds; the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 33.19 seconds; the 50-yard butterfly in a time of 44.73 seconds; the 100-yard individual medley in a time of 1:27.78; the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:31.79; and the 100-yard freestyle in 1:17.76.
River Richards, 14, won the 100-yard backstroke in her age category, finishing in 1:26.77.
In the 100-yard breaststroke for boys age 15-18, Moab’s C.J. Hren recorded a time of 1:28.46, defeating teammate Jaydan Olsen, who placed second with a time of 1:33.10. C.J. Hren also won the 50-yard freestyle in 28.96 seconds and the 100-yard freestyle in 1:10.82. Jaydan Olsen placed first in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 45.29 seconds.
Also for the Sea Devil boys, Cedar English, 10, placed first in his age group in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 41.15 seconds.
In the mixed relay events, Moab won the 200-yard medley relay for ages 11-12, with Cedar English, 10, Aspen English, 12, London Richards, 12, and Kane Scherer, 12, recording a time of 3:04.50. The same four swimmers also won the mixed 200-yard freestyle relay, with a time of 2:44.72.
The Sea Devils also took first in the 100-yard freestyle relay for ages 9-10, with Zoe Kosa, 10, Anika Scherer, 10, Indiana Richards, 8, and Emree Olsen, 10, recording a time of 1:27.03.
Also competing for the Sea Devils at the meet and earning ribbons and points for the team were London Niesen, 7, Olive English, 8, and Delanee Olsen, 13. A total of 16 swimmers from Moab participated in the meet.
The Sea Devils have upcoming meets in Fillmore and Richfield later this month.
