The Grand County High School softball team won all three of its varsity games last week, defeating Richfield at Moab on Thursday, April 6 and sweeping North Sevier in both games of a doubleheader in Salina the following afternoon.

Thursday’s contest was a non-region game against Richfield, a 3A school. The Lady Wildcats scored the first run of the game during the second inning, but Grand scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth to build a six-run lead. The Lady Devils led 10-2 after five innings, but Richfield rallied to score five runs in the sixth inning, thanks in part to a bases-loaded home run. The Wildcats then added one more run in the seventh before Grand was able to get the final out and secure a 10-8 victory.

Junior McKinsey Brewer pitched the full seven innings for the Lady Devils and picked up the win. Grand had a total of eight team hits, including two each by Raegan Paxman and Hannah Tangren.

On Friday, April 7, the Lady Devils traveled to Salina to face region rival North Sevier in a varsity doubleheader. Grand won the first game 5-1, with Tia Shumway picking up the pitching win. The Lady Devils then won the second game 8-1, with Brewer getting the pitching victory. Among the offensive highlights was a three-run double by Paxman.

The Lady Devils have this week off for spring break, but will resume their schedule with a varsity doubleheader at home on Tuesday, April 18 against region rival Gunnison Valley. The back-to-back contests are scheduled to start at 2 and 4 p.m.
