I have lived in Moab for a few years now and I am just out of my mind about the shut down. It hurts our family a lot. But what I am seeing is that this is something that can keep happening. There might not be an end in sight.
Why are the people in our city not trying to bring other things into our town? We can’t depend on tourism. The shut down should really show the people in the community that we can no longer depend on tourist money only.
We should be looking in town to bring more businesses that are not just tourist targeted. Has the local government forgotten who keeps the hotels and restaurants in Moab running? I see the stickers that say shop local first, and I try just like a lot of people do that. But when it comes to some things I have to leave town and buy them other places.
Expanding the business community in Moab will give people more options for employment and maybe motivate some of the hotels in town to pay better wages to the employees that keeps this town running.
