Ultimate XC race set for Nov. 14
The Moab Ultimate XC cross country race will be held in Moab Nov. 14. The race begins at the Kane Creek parking lot, three miles from Moab, and continues for up to 20 miles along a challenging course through a variety of backcountry canyons and trails.
The course was designed by world class local runner, Danelle Ballengee and 2009 will mark the event’s second year.
“The Ultimate XC provides an opportunity to experience trail running at its best,” Ballengee said in a news release about the event. “For the competitive athlete, the 50K or 20 miler race will be the ultimate challenge. For those less inclined to run for several hours, but who enjoy trail running nonetheless, the 12 miler provides an exciting and challenging option—also tough course.”
The event kicks off at 8:30 a.m. with registration from 7 to 8 a.m. Participants can also pre-register online at www.ultimatexc.com. Racers will start by heading up Pritchett Canyon. The course also utilizes the trails on Hunter Rim, Hunter Canyon, Amasa Back, Jackson Trail, Moab Rim and a short portion along Kane Creek Road, according to the news release.
A complete course description is available on the event website. The awards ceremony begins at 4:30 p.m. and a barbecue meal will be available for volunteers and participants all afternoon.
Volunteers are needed for the event, Ballengee said.
