The Utah State Engineer’s office will hold a public meeting in Moab on Wednesday, Sept. 30 to discuss recent legislation and policy changes in water rights for southeastern Utah.

The meeting will be held at 2:30 p.m. at the Grand Center, 182 North 500 West. State officials will discuss the Utah State Geological Survey’s special study, “The Hydrogeology of Moab-Spanish Valley,” which looks at the area’s aquifer and includes recommendations for water-resource management and land-use planning. Officials will also discuss other issues related to irrigation duty, Willow Basin and upper Mill Creek water appropriation policy, water rights, endangered fish policy, and Colorado River water rights policy.

Information will be presented concerning a proposed water rights settlement agreement recognizing federal reserved water rights for Arches National Park, settlement concepts and the practical implications of adopting proposed protection zones outside the park, according to information provided by the agency.

The public is invited to attend.
