Saturday, April 12 was the annual Redd Ranches Bull Auction in Paradox, Colo. Yearling bulls, which sold for an average of $2,300 each, are headed to new homes on the range in the four corners area. Redd Ranches, which has been breeding and selling bulls for the last 50 years, run the bulls through a gamut of tests before the auction, checking their weight-gain ratio and expected progeny differences, among other things, to genetically engineer sires to improve cattle herds and eventually, beef quality.
