We write with profound thanks for the heroic hearts brought to bear in the firefighting efforts in the west end of Castle Valley this Memorial Day weekend.

We are still stunned by the grace; the many small miracles that prevented larger catastrophes from happening.

The volunteer fire departments of Castle Valley and Moab Valley, and the BLM Interagency Fire Center, the U.S. Forest Service and the Grand County Sheriff’s Department along with the prayers of friends and neighbors – all of these are to be credited with saving the day and the homes and spirits of all concerned.

The list of material losses may be lengthy, but we could write a book of reasons and persons to be forever grateful for.

With utter and instantaneous clarity about what really matters, we remain most thankful.
