He was born Nov. 19, 1920, in Brookhaven, Miss., to Abner and Stevie Gaither. Harold grew up in Pledger, Texas, and attended the University of Texas, where he graduated with a geology degree in 1940. He served in the U.S. Army, as a captain, during World War II.
In 1951, while working in West Texas, he met his future wife, Mary LaRue Ross. They were married on Jan. 29, 1952, in Brownfield, Texas.
Harold owned and operated seismograph and drilling rigs in Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming in the 1950s, and was the owner of Gaither Chevrolet Pontiac in Moab, Utah from 1960-1985.
His greatest joy was always his family and friends.
He is survived by his son, John (Mimi) Gaither of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; daughter, Mary Kay (Melvin) Crawford of Cheyenne, Wyo.; brother, Herman (Sandra) Gaither of Dickinson, Texas; his grandsons, Joshua and Brian (Debra) Crawford, and granddaughter, Ann Gaither.
Harold is preceded in death by his wife, Mary LaRue, and his parents.
No formal services will be held.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Callahan-Edfast Mortuary in Grand Junction.
Friends may contribute to the Salvation Army of Grand Junction.
