How sad that folks are still using economic bullying to punish people with whom they do not agree.
There is ample research demonstrating that western communities’ economic health is enhanced by nearby wild lands, national parks and monuments. This evidence may not convince everyone. It does, however, prove that differing beliefs about whether or not a new Canyonlands National Monument is in our long-term best interest are a matter on which honest people can disagree.
It does not serve our community or our future to treat those with whom we disagree as the enemy, even when we think them dead wrong. Efforts to make local businesses less successful cannot be good for our future.
