Al was born Feb. 10, 1941, in Fairview, Okla., to Forrest E. and Dorothy Wilson Parmenter. He married Susan J. Underwood on April 10, 1959 and had two children, Julie Parmenter (Marlyn) Morey of Grand Junction, Colo., and Tamara Parmenter (Greg) Wadleigh of Grenola, Kan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two of his sisters, Joella Horton and Lavonna Phillips. He is survived by his wife and daughters; his siblings, Bill Parmenter, Delbert Parmenter, Darrol Parmenter and Patsy Phillips; by four grandchildren, Geoffrey Morey, Courtnee Morey Schmitt, Amy Wadleigh Jewett, Andy Wadleigh; and by five great-grandchildren.
Al worked for Midland Telephone Company in Moab, Utah, for many years, but always had an entrepreneurial spirit, starting, buying and selling several businesses. He loved to tinker in his shop and his friends and family fondly remember that he usually “whistled while he worked.” He liked to sing and play the guitar, and his great sense of humor will be sorely missed, but his all-time favorite hobby was flying any of the three single-engine airplanes he owned over the years.
A celebration of Alton L. Parmenter’s life will take place on Dec. 27 at 10:30 a.m. at Callahan Edfast Mortuary, 2515 Patterson Road, in Grand Junction. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado.
