“Much of the communication that teachers and administration send home to parents goes into letters and notes that students bring home in their backpacks. Too many of these newsletters, graded papers, and homework are left untouched,” BEACON officials said in a news release.
To help remedy the problem, BEACON applied for and received a WabiSabi Make a Difference grant for materials that will “encourage parents to check their children’s backpacks,” according to the news release. The grant has enabled BEACON to purchase magnets, posters, and banners promoting the “Check the Pack” campaign. Magnets will be distributed to all HMK families, and posters will be placed around town.
“BEACON is very grateful for this opportunity to support the school and the community,” program officials said in the news release.
WabiSabi also has been setting aside backpacks which BEACON will distribute to HMK students who don’t have one, officials said.
