The public is invited to share comments and ideas with the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Moab Field Office regarding a proposed 24-mile natural gas pipeline in eastern Utah

The BLM is considering a proposal for a pipeline that would capture gas currently being flared in the Big Flat area and would connect gas wells north of Dead Horse Point State Park with an existing pipeline near Blue Hills Road. A full description of the proposed project can be found on the Environmental Notification Bulletin Board at: https://www.blm.gov/ut/enbb/index.php.

The agency will prepare an environmental assessment (EA) on the proposed pipeline and seeks public input on preliminary issues and planning criteria for the project EA, according to a BLM news release. A range of alternatives will be developed regarding issues identified at the outset of the National Environmental Policy Act process.

The public scoping period is open until Feb. 19.

The most useful comments are those that "identify issues relevant to the proposed action or contain new technical or scientific information," according to the news release. Comments containing only opinions or preferences will not receive a response, but may be considered in the decision-making process, the BLM said.

Comments should reference “Pipeline” or include the word “Pipeline” in the subject line. Written comments should be mailed to: Bureau of Land Management, Moab field office, Attn: Jan Denney, 82 E. Dogwood, Moab, UT 84532.

Written comments may also be submitted via email to: UT_Moab_Comments@blm.gov.

Those submitting comments should be aware that the entire comment – including any personal information – may be made public at any time, BLM officials said in the news release. The BLM will not consider anonymous comments.

For more information about the proposed project or the public scoping period, contact the BLM-Utah Moab field office at 435-259-2100.
