The Grand County Council voted unanimously Tuesday, Feb. 19, to forgive the $3,110.03 penalty previously assessed. The vote on a motion by council vice chairman Lynn Jackson came after little discussion.
“These guys are great community partners,” he said. “I assume this was just an oversight. I have no problem with it.”
Intrepid’s assessed taxes increased from $804,156.83 in 2011 to $1,110,868.45 last year, according to county records. No one from Potash spoke about the reason for the late payment.
Grand County Treasurer Peg Taylor noted in her report to the council, “They are one of the biggest taxpayers in the county.”
