As an RN and manager of the Spanish Valley Clinic, I can tell you that we have had numerous positive cases of both Influenza A and B in the clinics operated by San Juan Health Services. The clinics are not required to report cases of influenza unless associated with a hospitalization or death. Southeastern Utah District Health Department, spokeswoman, Terrie Wright incorrectly described the reporting process.
I am concerned that the article gives the public a false sense of security. It leads one to believe that the risk of getting the flu in the Moab area is low.
The public needs to take precautions and know that indeed we do have an outbreak of the flu locally.
