Melanie Beth Nyland, of Spanish Fork, Utah, returned to her Heavenly Father on Feb. 22, 2013 at Intermountain Medical Center. She passed away after having fought a valiant fight with heart failure.

Melanie was born July 10, 1977 in Oakland, Calif., to James K. and Gayle M. Gee, the fourth of seven children. Her family moved to Spanish Fork, where she graduated from high school.

She married Jared Nyland in 1999, and they were later sealed in the Mt. Timpanogos LDS temple. Together they have two beautiful daughters. Melanie loved being a wife and mother, and enjoyed spending time with her family. Melanie also enjoyed crafts, taking photos, shopping, gardening and reading.

In 2005, Melanie received a heart transplant and was able to enjoy eight more years with her family. For a short time she worked at East Meadows Elementary school and loved working with the children.

Melanie is survived by her husband of 14 years, Jared Nyland; daughters, Halle (13), Kyah (9); mother, Gayle M. Gee; brothers, James Gee, Christopher Gee; sisters, Cynthia Taylor, Allison Muhlestein, Rachei Fawson; 16 nephews; eight nieces; father- and mother-in-law, Jim and Cheryl Nyland; brother-in-law, J.D. Nyland; and sister-in-law, Tina Burgess.

She is preceded in death by her father, James K. Gee; sister, Alisa Gee; cousin, Andrea Brierley Slade; and both sets of grandparents.

Funeral services will be held on Friday March 1, at 11 a.m., at the Canyon Ridge Ward chapel at 2162 E. Canyon Road, Spanish Fork. A viewing will be held on Thursday evening Feb. 28, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Walker Funeral Home, 187 S. Main St., Spanish Fork. Interment will be at Spanish Fork Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the IMC heart transplant team and staff for their loving care, as well as all those who provided service and support.

In lieu of flowers an account has been set up in Melanie Nyland’s name at Mountain America Credit Union.
