The Grand County High School baseball team won all three of its games during a weekend invitational tournament held at Moab on March 8 and 9.

On Friday, the Red Devils routed the Rangely Panthers, a Colorado team, by the score of 12-1. Later on Friday, the Red Devils followed their first win with a 6-3 victory over the American Leadership Academy Eagles.

Against Rangely, Grand jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first inning. Senior Preston Walston was the winning pitcher for Grand. Walston also hit a home run during the game. The Red Devils had a total of eight hits in the contest, while Rangely committed seven errors in the field.

In Grand’s other Friday game, the Red Devils led American Leadership Academy 3-0 in the first inning, then managed to score three more runs in the fourth to build a 6-0 lead. ALA scored three runs late in the game, but the Red Devils held on for the three-run win. Koi Cook was the winning pitcher for Grand.

On Saturday afternoon, the Red Devils faced the Millard Eagles in the round-robin tournament’s final game. Grand opened up a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Each team then scored once in the second inning to make it 2-1 for Grand. Both teams then went scoreless during the rest of the game, as the Red Devils managed to pull out the 2-1 win.

Aaron Lewis went the distance on the mound for Grand and picked up the pitching victory. Outfielders Adam Jenkinson and Koi Cook each threw out a runner at the plate to help preserve the Red Devils’ lead. Tanner White also hit a triple for the Red Devils during the game.

This week, the Red Devils are scheduled to host another four-team round-robin tournament, this time competing against Manti, Gunnison, and North Sanpete. On Friday, March 15, the Red Devils are scheduled to play the Gunnison Bulldogs at 10 a.m. and the Manti Templars at 12:30 p.m. Grand will then play the North Sanpete Hawks at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
