The Grand County High School boys soccer team won both of its games by large margins last week.
The Red Devils beat Carbon 7-2 in a non-region game at Moab on Tuesday, March 12.
Freshman Joseph Shumway, sophomore Koby Sobremesana and junior Jacob Francis each scored twice for the Red Devils. Senior Wesley Rodda also added one goal.
Grand’s first goal was kicked by Sobremesana, but it initially appeared to have been knocked into the net by Shumway, who ended up inside the net on the play. Later, however, the goal was credited to Sobremesana. Shumway did score two goals before halftime as Grand took a commanding 4-0 lead at the midway point, with all four goals coming in a span of about seven minutes near the end of the first half.
At Salina on Thursday, March 14, the Red Devils defeated the North Sevier Wolves by the score of 10-2 in a region game. Francis and Sobremesana each scored three goals for Grand, while Rodda added two. Senior Kamron Call and freshman Rylan Ruggeri each added one goal for the Red Devils.
This week, Grand is scheduled to play Manti at Moab on Thursday, March 21. The Red Devils will also play a game during next week’s spring break, at Moab on Tuesday, March 26, against Richfield. Both varsity contests are scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
