Steve succumbed to a 12-year battle with Lymphoma on March 17, 2013, comfortable in his home with his family. He inspired us, taught us values and showed us how to live a good life. No words can describe what he did for the people in his life.
This obituary is a homage to him, a thank-you to the man who influenced us so completely. We believe that he was such a good part of the fabric of our community that people deserve to know that he has passed. If you knew him, we ask simply that you consider him one last time. Remember the man he was to you. We loved him, and will continue to love his memory forever. And we know he was proud to be part of this world and to contribute how he could.
A memorial will be held for him on Saturday, March 23, in Durango, Colo., at the First United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. to be followed by a party at his home. But Steve Jones’ real memorial will be held at the end of June in Moab when, honoring his wishes verbatim, our family will host a “big ass party” at our house and then scatter his ashes from the summit of Mt. Tomasaki. All who knew, appreciated or loved him are welcome to participate. The family is creating a photo montage and requests that people either bring photos to the Durango and Moab memorials, or email photos of Steve to: molly.j.13@gmail.com. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to a charity of choice.
