The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Moab Field Office (MFO) is seeking public comment on an environmental assessment (EA) analyzing the potential impacts of a proposed oil and gas well southeast of La Sal in the Lisbon Valley area of San Juan County.

Through construction of an access road, pipeline and well pad, the proposed Big Indian No. 24-31-30-25 oil and gas well would create approximately 11 acres of surface disturbance on public lands, according to an agency news release. CCI Paradox Upstream, LLC, formerly known as Patara Oil and Gas, LLC, submitted the proposal to the BLM.

Additional information about the proposed project is included in the EA, which is now available for public review and comment on the Environmental Notification Bulletin at https://www.blm.gov/ut/enbb/index.php, under the project name “Big Indian”.

Written comments will be accepted by letter or email until May 24. The BLm is seeking comments that “identify issues relevant to the proposed action or contain new technical or scientific information.” They said comments on the EA should be “as specific as possible with references to page numbers and chapters of the document,” and that comments containing only opinions or preferences “will not receive a formal response, but may be considered in the BLM decision-making process.”

Those who submit comments should reference “Big Indian EA” in the letter or email. Personal identifying information, if included with the comment, may be made available to the public, and the BLM will not consider anonymous comments, according to the news release.

Written comments may be mailed to: Bureau of Land Management, Moab Field Office, Attn: Oil and Gas Program, 82 E. Dogwood Ave., Moab, Utah, 84532. Comments may be submitted by email to: blm_ut_mb_comments@blm.gov.
