Can you imagine the stress of hurriedly gathering up children, a disabled partner, pets, everyone and whatever you might need to sustain yourselves for an indefinite period of time, going out the door and not knowing if your house will be there when you come back?
There was also the close call from the 2008 fire. After the 2011 experience, I made a thorough list of what to take for the next evacuation, to be better prepared. However, I sincerely hope I never have to go through that again. I sincerely hope no one ever again will be so careless with fireworks as to create so much fear and damage.
This is the time of year when people find childish pleasure in the sound and sparkle of fireworks. Fireworks can be a sensory delight. But, please, everyone who feels the need to set off your own – do it in a careful, adult manner. Please. Please.
