This is in response to the letter in last week’s Times-Independent (“Building something,” June 20) referring to the homeless situation in Moab.

I know there are homeless people in Moab because due to unforeseen circumstances, I was homeless for some time myself. During this time I met several other homeless people, some of whom are still homeless.

The “lady from back East” did not create this problem, it was already there when she discovered it.

Due to hands up and not hand outs I was able to get back on my feet. I now collect my earned retirement benefits and live comfortably in an apartment. Others are not so fortunate.
