However, he has not explained to us, his constituents, the sources he uses when noting “public opinion” to justify his votes. Who does he talk to in order to learn about public opinion? Did he talk with any of the 600 people who signed Louis Williams’ petition to change the name?
Has he conducted a poll of citizens, on the name change and other issues facing the county? If so, it would be great to see the questions asked and a tabulation of the responses the councilman gathered.
The essence of democracy is allowing the public to voice opinions and to take part in public decision-making. My impression of councilman Jackson’s tenure to date does not live up to those essential democratic elements.
