The Pickerz performs a variety of family and children’s folk songs and has previously performed at the market. This month’s performers will include Grace Osusky, an eighth-grader who plays viola, and Alan Snow, a ninth-grade string bass player, along with Nanci Flesher, Moab String Program director. The two youngest violin players in the program, Zoe Olsen and Liam Clark, both second-graders, will also perform, Flesher said.
The BEACON Moab String Program will begin its second year with Day Camp, at the Grand County High School, on Monday, Aug. 12. Twenty-five second-year string players and the new secondary class (middle school and high school string players) will participate in the day long camp.
This year, the BEACON program is in partnership with the Moab Music Festival to fund five string classes at three school campuses. Two new teachers, Arla Jean Paskett and Bonnie Nielsen, will be providing instruction, along with Flesher, at Helen M. Knight Elementary School, the Moab Charter School and the Grand County Middle School.
Flesher said 37 students in grades two through 10 have enrolled for the 2013 program, 2nd grade through 10th grade. Enrollment is closed for this year. However, there is a waiting list for the next school year, Flesher said. For more information, contact Flesher at ånanciflesher@gmail.com.
