Beginning Aug. 5, a construction project is scheduled to begin in the Devils Garden area of Arches National Park. Visitors should expect heavy traffic congestion and delays near Devils Garden, which is located near the end of the main road leading into the park, according to a news release from Arches officials.

The Devils Garden trailhead accesses Landscape Arch, Double O Arch, Dark Angel, the Primitive Loop and other major arches in the park.

Park officials are recommending that visitors avoid the construction area by visiting other destinations within the park, or taking in the scenic views along the main road then turning around at the Sand Dune Arch parking lot, approximately 16.5 miles north along the road, and returning to the Arches visitor center.

Park officials also suggested visiting Devils Garden on Friday, Saturdays or Sundays, as no construction work will be done on those days, according to the news release.

No water will be available at Devils Garden trailhead during construction.

“Visitors are strongly encouraged to fill water bottles at the Arches Visitor Center prior to driving up the park road,” park officials said in the news release.

Construction is expected to continue through early October, and will be completed in phases to allow the area to remain open to the public, officials said. The work will include replacing existing toilets with new larger models, installing benches for increased seating, replacing the water fountain, adding accessible parking spaces, providing tour bus parking and extending the sidewalk.

All park roads and trails will remain open throughout the construction period, officials said.
