All funds raised will help the 18 and three chaperones travel to Paris, the Riviera and Rome next summer to study art, language, and culture.
Students on the 10-day trip will participate in walking tours of Paris, Nice, Monaco, Pisa, Florence, and Rome, while sampling local cuisine, learning about ancient and modern art, touring a perfume factory and a variety of other events. Some students will also be traveling to Capri and Pompeii as part of a two-day optional trip extension.
Students also have the opportunity to visit the Versailles palace in France and Siena, Italy.
Through immersion in culture, language, and art, the students hope to gain knowledge, improve their language skills, and have fun exploring Europe.
The auction preview begins at 6 p.m., and dessert and a drawing will follow the live auction. The students have been planning and fundraising for the trip since the beginning of the 2013 school year. Monthly meetings are held to discuss travel requirements, help students learn travel skills and survival French and Italian phrases for those who have not taken French classes at GCHS.
The students also discuss journaling techniques and fundraising ideas during the meetings. Preparations for the trip will continue throughout the school year. A departure date of late May or early June is expected.
