“We had some really good times,” said GCHS head coach Brian Pierce, noting that a majority of Grand’s 14 athletes at the meet posted at least one personal-best time in an event.
Among them was senior Treyton Helquist, who swam the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:15.24, the second fastest time of the season for a 2A athlete. Another senior, Jackson Knowles, recorded a time of 2:08.65 in the 200-yard freestyle, which is nearly five seconds better than his previous best, and also third-best time among 2A boys so far this season.
For the Lady Devil swimmers, freshman Alexa Pierce shaved two seconds off her previous best in the 100-yard butterfly, posting a time of 1:05.20, which is the best time among 2A girls this season. Pierce currently ranks among the top three in four other individual events in the 2A standings.
Several other Red Devil swimmers also posted a personal-best time in at least one race at the meet, Pierce said. The event was Grand’s fourth meet of the season.
Grand’s next meet will be against Carbon High School on Saturday, Dec. 14 in Price. The two-team event is scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m.
“That will be our closest meet of the season, so it will be a good one for parents to travel to,” said Pierce.
