There is still time to enter a team for the competition, and local residents are also invited to come watch the tournament.
Last year, dozens of players and fans turned out for the inaugural event. In 2013, a total of 20 teams, most with six to seven players, competed. The tournament features pool play followed by single-elimination playoffs to determine the winner.
The Moab City Rec’n Balls team was the 2013 champion, winning all but one game and defeating Zax Restaurant for the title.
Awards are also given for best costume and best team costume, best team name and sportsmanship.
Last year’s event raised about $900 for Club Red, which will help fund the general operations of the teen center and its programs, according to Amy Stocks, the director of Club Red.
“The most fun thing about the event was watching community members of all ages, skills and sub cultures come together to have a great time,” Stocks told The Times-Independent following the 2013 inaugural dodgeball tournament. “I especially enjoyed seeing the teens compete against their teachers and mentors. It was a great event for people of all ages!”
