Bob was born May 23, 1931, in Greenwich, N.Y., but moved to Chicago after a tour of service in the United States Marine Corps. He received his undergraduate degree from Lake Forest College, and his law degree from Chicago-Kent College.
Bob worked for the Department of Naval Intelligence before beginning a long successful career in the carpet industry. His longtime hobbies included playing tennis, observing wildlife, and watching football.
Bob was dearly loved by his children, David Hendy, Daniel Hendy, Susan Lighthill, Douglas Hendy, Lisa Hendy, Michael Hendy, and Amelia Emerling, as well as eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
To his friends, he was a gregarious, compassionate, considerate and kind man, known for his integrity and honesty in business.
A memorial scattering of his ashes will be planned at a future date.
