The BEACON Afterschool Program and Moab Teen Center: Club Red are teaming up to host the annual fundraiser, which has a Willy Wonka theme for 2014.
Local sweets-makers are invited to register to compete in the Chocolate Creations contest. There is no charge for entering the competition, said Amy Stocks, director of Club Red.
“We usually have between six and 12 entries,” she said. “The winning entry is selected by a panel of judges, but people who attend also get to vote for the ‘People’s Choice’ entry.”
Prizes will also be awarded to the chocolate creations that are deemed “best tasting” and “best in theme.”
Those who attend also have the opportunity to indulge their love of chocolate by tasting all the entries.
The event will also include a variety of Wonka-inspired activities for children, including a Wonka-vision photo booth and lickable wallpaper.
Wonka-themed competitions will include the donut on a string, turn violet into a blueberry, a golden egg relay and the fizzy lifting drink burping contest, according to information provided by the organizers.
The evening will also include a silent auction, which helps raise money for both BEACON and the Moab Teen Center. The auction features a variety of items, including hotel stays, massages and other pampering items, gift certificates from several local businesses and $150 worth of paint, Stocks said.
BEACON is helping put on the event for the first time, and the organization’s director, Stephanie Dahlstrom said she is excited about working with Club Red.
“I think it will be a great partnership,” Dahlstrom said. “The community can come out. They can taste as much chocolate as they want and participate in activities and be in a movie-themed event. And they can support two great programs.”
Admission to the Chocolate Lovers Fling is $10 for adults and $6 for children. For more information, call Club Red at 435-259-2255, ext. 133, or BEACON at 435-259-2767.
