The Grand County High School volleyball team went 3-6 at two-day invitational tournament Oct. 7 and 8 at the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield.

None of the games counted toward the teams’ official standings, and matches were scored in a best-of-three format instead of the usual best-of-five.

In their three tournament wins, the Lady Devils defeated South Sevier in a two-game sweep on Friday, and beat Beaver 2-1 and Manti 2-0 on Saturday. Grand’s six losses over the two days came against South Sevier (twice), South Summit, North Sanpete, Emery, and Juab.

This week, the Lady Devils are scheduled to play at Monticello in a non-region contest on Thursday, Oct. 13, followed by a region match at Moab the following day, Friday, Oct. 14, against North Sevier. Grand will then face winless Manti in a region match at Moab at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, during which game the team’s senior players will be recognized.

The Lady Devils are currently in fifth place in Region 15 and would likely need to beat both second-place North Sevier this week plus third-place Emery at Emery next week, in order to have a chance of placing among the region’s top four teams and thereby earn a spot in the upcoming state tournament.
