The Moab Chamber of Commerce and the City of Moab are hosting two special events this weekend as the Moab Christmas tree lighting/Electric Light Parade and the MARC Gift Fair return for another season of holiday fun.

The Electric Light Parade will start at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2. Participating groups will line up at 4:30 p.m. at Swanny Park. The parade starts at 6 p.m. The floats will make their way from Swanny Park and travel down Main Street to Uranium Avenue. Moab Chamber of Commerce Executive Lexie Samuelsen expects more than 70 groups will participate in the parade this year.

The theme of this year’s parade is “Sweet Christmas in the Rocks.” Harrison’s Oil Service chose the theme after winning last year’s trophy for best parade entry. This year’s winner will choose the theme for next year and decorate the trophy for the 2018 winner, Samuelsen said.

The lighting of Moab’s Christmas tree at Swanny Park will take place on Friday, Dec. 1 at 5 p.m. An appearance by Santa Claus is scheduled for the lighting. Free hot cocoa and cookies will be available.

For more information call Samuelsen at 435-259-7814.

The weekend also provides an opportunity for holiday gift shopping.

The gift fair at the MARC, located at 111 East 100 North, will feature dozens of vendors selling jewelry, leatherwork and other handmade products. The fair will take place Friday, Dec. 1 from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 2 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Santa Claus will make an appearance again on Saturday and will hand out candy canes.

For more information call City of Moab Arts and Special Events Assistant Liz Holland at 435-259-6272.
