The free concert series at Swanny Park will be held again this summer.
On Tuesday, the Moab Area Travel Council approved a $16,700 donation to the Friends of the Moab Folk Festival, which was the lead sponsor of the event last year.
Event organizer Melissa Schmaedick said the concert series was hugely successful and popular, with 450 people at the best-attended concert.
“It was a lot of fun, and we hit all the targets we were trying to achieve,” Schmaedick said.
Attendance, she estimated, was 50 percent local residents and 50 percent tourists, with 12 percent being tourists from outside the United States.
“The fact that you’re drawing 50 percent tourists, and 12 percent are foreign, that speaks volumes,” said Travel Council Director Elaine Gizler. “From the travel council’s standpoint, it makes sense” to fund the event.
Council Chair Howard Trenholme anticipated the event would grow. “The word is on the street.”
