On March 30, 1967 the first Easter Jeep Safari was hosted by the Moab Chamber of Commerce. More than 50 years later it is hosted by the Red Rock 4-Wheelers club and the Chamber and it is still going strong, according to organizer Linda Brewer.
“Thank you Moab for your support all these years,” Brewer said. “Realizing how much extra work it takes by ... search and rescue, police and the sheriff’s office when any event is held in town, the club donates annually to assist in obtaining equipment that might not be in their annual budget. Whether it be bicycles for the bike patrol, equipping the first 4-wheel drive ambulance or new crash carts in the emergency room at the hospital, it all helps to serve the community.”
Other charities were also chosen by club members, who are active and passionate in donating their time in other areas of the community. A total of $16,750 was donated from the proceeds of the Easter Jeep Safari and Labor Day events.
