Utah District Director Marla Trollan and a small group of staff as well as other participating organizations visited Price, Moab and Vernal July 17-19 presenting information about free resources to budding entrepreneurs.
“Opportunities to start a business shouldn’t be dictated by geographic boundaries, and we are dedicated to helping entrepreneurs across Utah, meeting them where they are, not only where they live, but at whatever stage of development they are in,” Trollan said. “We want to make sure they are aware of resources that can help them turn their big idea into a reality.”
The road show was part of a larger initiative by the SBA to increase economic activity and lending in rural Utah by helping new businesses open and existing ones grow. “An impressive team of participants was assembled who briefed attendees on programs intended to help businesses achieve this goal,” said a press release from the SBA.
“I thought it was a great way to meet local business owners who are interested in learning more about the U.S. Small Business Administration, its partner resources and lenders. In addition to the general session/presentations I hosted two women business owner focus groups, in Moab and Vernal, which was extremely helpful for me in understanding the unique opportunities, needs and challenges in their local areas. In this way, the Women’s Business Center of Utah can customize services and resources for women business owners in these regions,” said Ann Marie Wallace, state director of the WBC.
Attendees were able to meet one-on-one with resource partners and/or lenders and learn details of Utah’s 25k Jobs Initiative. They found out about free counseling services available to help with market research and how to prepare business plans. They were also informed on specific loan programs available through SBA, USDA and the Utah Microloan Fund.
The next leg of the road show will hit St. George, Cedar City and Richfield in August.
